Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work We Will Not Be The Last by Matthew Ritchie was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in November 2014, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 70,000.00 – 90,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 68,750.00 (€ 55,274.16). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Matthew Ritchie - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Big Life oil and ink on canvas 88 x 154 in. (223.5 x 391.2 cm.) Executed in 2002. The Essential Diagrams 12 vinyl decals dimensions variable Executed in 2002. This work is number nine from an edition of twelve., which sold at auction in November 2007 for USD 289,000.00 (€ 196,759.26).
