Auction result misses estimated price range
In October 2018 a collector was able to acquire the work Sea State Five by Matthew Ritchie for USD 875.00 (€ 772.15). This price was achieved in the auction The Collection of Melva Bucksbaum: Post-War and Contemporary Art, Photographs and Prints at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Matthew Ritchie achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Big Life oil and ink on canvas 88 x 154 in. (223.5 x 391.2 cm.) Executed in 2002. The Essential Diagrams 12 vinyl decals dimensions variable Executed in 2002. This work is number nine from an edition of twelve. in November 2007 with an auction result of USD 289,000.00 (€ 196,759.26).
