In May 2014 Sothebys in New York held the auction Contemporary Art Day Auction, which included the work Dolorosa by Bill Viola. The »bidding war« ended at USD 149,000.00 (€ 109,237.54), 66% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Bill Viola have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Eternal Return in October 2006 with an auction result of GBP 377,600.00 (€ 564,168.04).

Im Mai 2014 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion Contemporary Art Day Auction durch, in der auch die Arbeit Dolorosa von Bill Viola zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 149.000,00 (€ 109.237,54) und damit 66% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Bill Viola auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Eternal Return im Oktober 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 377.600,00 (€ 564.168,04).
