Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Witness by Bill Viola was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in March 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 150,000.00 – 200,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 138,600.00 (€ 118,027.76). Admittedly, works by Bill Viola have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Eternal Return in October 2006 with an auction result of GBP 377,600.00 (€ 564,168.04).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Witness von Bill Viola im März 2021 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 150.000,00 – 200.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 138.600,00 (€ 118.027,76) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Bill Viola auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Eternal Return im Oktober 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 377.600,00 (€ 564.168,04).
