Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Lichtenstein Study for Stepping Out by Elaine Sturtevant was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 15,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 47,880.00 (€ 44,618.40). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Elaine Sturtevant achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Warhol Diptych in May 2015 with an auction result of USD 5,093,000.00 (€ 4,632,526.83).
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Lichtenstein Study for Stepping Out von Elaine Sturtevant im Mai letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 15.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 47.880,00 (€ 44.618,40) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Elaine Sturtevant erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Warhol Diptych im Mai 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 5.093.000,00 (€ 4.632.526,83).
