Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
The work La muse endormie, c. 1912 by Constantin Brancusi was worth USD 201,600.00 (€ 189,224.70) to a buyer in May this year. This price was achieved in the auction Post-War & Contemporary Art Day Sale at Christies in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 50,000.00 many times over. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Constantin Brancusi achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work La jeune fille sophistiquée (Portrait de Nancy Cunard) in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 71,187,500.00 (€ 61,000,428.45).
