Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Beijing Wawa - Mermaid by Zhang Hui was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in September 2012, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 6,875.00 (€ 5,347.70). Admittedly, works by Zhang Hui have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Miraculous Slop Analysis 1 in May 2014 with an auction result of HKD 525,000.00 (€ 49,651.76).
