In May last year Christies in New York held the auction Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale, which included the work Roofing Exercise 3 by Theaster Gates. The »bidding war« ended at USD 81,900.00 (€ 76,320.94), 37% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Theaster Gates have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A Flag For The Least Of Them in December 2018 with an auction result of USD 807,000.00 (€ 704,434.36).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 37 % übertroffen
Im Mai letzten Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Roofing Exercise 3 von Theaster Gates zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 81.900,00 (€ 76.320,94) und damit 37% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Theaster Gates auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit A Flag For The Least Of Them im Dezember 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 807.000,00 (€ 704.434,36).
