THEASTER GATES (B. 1973) Civil Rights Throw Rug 7200.41 decommissioned fire hose and trim 31 1 ⁄ 4 x 24 1 ⁄ 2 x 1 ⁄ 4 in. (79.4 x 62.2 x 0.6 cm.) Executed in 2011. This is a unique variant from an edition of 20 unique variants plus three unique artist's proofs.
Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Theaster Gates could be acquired at Christies in New York in December last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the First Open | Post-War & Contemporary Art auction, the work Civil Rights Throw Rug 7200.41 changed hands for USD 6,300.00 (€ 5,888.95) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Theaster Gates achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Flag For The Least Of Them in December 2018 with an auction result of USD 807,000.00 (€ 704,434.36).

Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Theaster Gates erzielen.
