The work Walking on Afroturf by Theaster Gates was sold in the New Now auction at Phillips in New York in March this year. The »bidding war« ended at USD 45,720.00 (€ 42,052.98), 52% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Theaster Gates achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Flag For The Least Of Them in December 2018 with an auction result of USD 807,000.00 (€ 704,434.36).

Die Arbeit Walking on Afroturf von Theaster Gates wurde im März diesen Jahres in der Auktion New Now bei Phillips in New York versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 45.720,00 (€ 42.052,98) und damit 52% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Theaster Gates erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A Flag For The Least Of Them im Dezember 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 807.000,00 (€ 704.434,36).
