Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Eclipse (Orange/Green) by Polly Apfelbaum was auctioned at Phillips in New York in March last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,386.00 (€ 1,249.44). Admittedly, works by Polly Apfelbaum have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Rubbing Colours in December 2016 with an auction result of GBP 8,750.00 (€ 10,230.17).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Eclipse (Orange/Green) von Polly Apfelbaum im März letzten Jahres bei Phillips in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 1.386,00 (€ 1.249,44) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Polly Apfelbaum auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Rubbing Colours im Dezember 2016 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 8.750,00 (€ 10.230,17).
