Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Theory Of Tears by Josiah Mcelheny was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in September 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 60,000.00 – 80,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 40,625.00 (€ 30,206.71). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Josiah Mcelheny - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work EARLY MODERNISM MIRRORED AND REFLECTED INFINITELY, which sold at auction in May 2011 for USD 146,500.00 (€ 101,905.95).
