Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Mirror Drawing (Xii) by Josiah Mcelheny was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in September 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 12,500.00 (€ 9,294.37). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Josiah Mcelheny achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work EARLY MODERNISM MIRRORED AND REFLECTED INFINITELY in May 2011 with an auction result of USD 146,500.00 (€ 101,905.95).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Mirror Drawing (Xii) von Josiah Mcelheny im September 2011 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 12.500,00 (€ 9.294,37) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Josiah Mcelheny erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit EARLY MODERNISM MIRRORED AND REFLECTED INFINITELY im Mai 2011 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 146.500,00 (€ 101.905,95).
