Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portfolio Label, from Six Drawing Tables Portfolio by Saul Steinberg was auctioned at Phillips in New York in April this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 300.00 – 500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 254.00 (€ 230.07). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Saul Steinberg achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Twenty Americans (Twenty Professions) in November last year with an auction result of USD 113,400.00 (€ 109,851.79).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Portfolio Label, from Six Drawing Tables Portfolio von Saul Steinberg im April diesen Jahres bei Phillips in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 300,00 – 500,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 254,00 (€ 230,07) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Saul Steinberg erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Twenty Americans (Twenty Professions) im November letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 113.400,00 (€ 109.851,79).
