Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work Untitled Composition by Philip Taaffe was worth USD 189,000.00 (€ 176,125.24) to a buyer in May last year. This price was achieved in the auction Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale at Christies in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 50,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Philip Taaffe; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Midnight Blue sold at auction in May 2011 with the realized price of USD 434,500.00 (€ 302,239.84).

Die Arbeit Untitled Composition von Philip Taaffe war einem Käufer im Mai letzten Jahres USD 189.000,00 (€ 176.125,24) wert. Dieser Preise wurde in der Auktion Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale bei Christies in New York erzielt und übertraf den zuvor angesetzten oberen Schätzpreis von USD 50.000,00 um ein Vielfaches. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Philip Taaffe; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Midnight Blue im Mai 2011 mit dem Hammerpreis von USD 434.500,00 (€ 302.239,84).
