This artwork by Manuel Hernández Mompó achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in October 2008. In the Contemporary Art Day Auction auction, the work Mercado sold for GBP 27,500.00 (€ 35,052.63) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 15,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Manuel Hernández Mompó; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Mercado sold at auction in October 2006 with the realized price of EUR 60,000.00.
