This artwork by John Martin achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in February 2014. In the Impressionist & Modern Art Day Sale auction, the work The Valley Of The Shadow Of Death sold for GBP 43,750.00 (€ 53,079.28) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 18,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Martin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Celestial City And The River Of Bliss in July 2015 with an auction result of GBP 2,725,000.00 (€ 3,863,134.75).
