This artwork by John Martin achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in London in July last year. In the The Grand Tour Sale auction, the work Eruption of Vesuvius, 1822 sold for GBP 3,187.50 (€ 3,806.44) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Martin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Celestial City And The River Of Bliss in July 2015 with an auction result of GBP 2,725,000.00 (€ 3,863,134.75).

Dieses Kunstwerk von John Martin erzielte im Juli letzten Jahres bei Bonhams in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion The Grand Tour Sale wurde die Arbeit Eruption of Vesuvius, 1822 für GBP 3.187,50 (€ 3.806,44) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 1.500,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Martin erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Celestial City And The River Of Bliss im Juli 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 2.725.000,00 (€ 3.863.134,75).
