Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Illustrations to Paradise Lost by John Martin was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2021. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 31,250.00 (€ 37,274.70) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Martin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Celestial City And The River Of Bliss in July 2015 with an auction result of GBP 2,725,000.00 (€ 3,863,134.75).
