Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Satan in Council (Campbell-Wees 87) by John Martin was sold in the Old Master Prints including Property from the Collection of the Late Walter L. Strauss auction at Sothebys in London in December 2020. It changed hands for a price of GBP 1,890.00 (€ 2,111.30) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Martin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Celestial City And The River Of Bliss in July 2015 with an auction result of GBP 2,725,000.00 (€ 3,863,134.75).
