Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Duchamp Triptych, from Sequences by Elaine Sturtevant was auctioned at Phillips in London in June last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 315.00 (€ 365.94). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Elaine Sturtevant achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Warhol Diptych in May 2015 with an auction result of USD 5,093,000.00 (€ 4,632,526.83).
