Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Marriage Icon by Edward Kienholz was auctioned at Christies in New York in July last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 378.00 (€ 370.52). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edward Kienholz achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Future as an Afterthought in May 2003 with an auction result of USD 141,900.00 (€ 120,601.73).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit The Marriage Icon von Edward Kienholz im Juli letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.000,00 – 1.500,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 378,00 (€ 370,52) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Edward Kienholz erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Future as an Afterthought im Mai 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 141.900,00 (€ 120.601,73).
