Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When the work Silent (Music Box) by Christian Marclay was auctioned at Phillips in New York in April this year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 300.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at USD 1,270.00 (€ 1,150.36). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Christian Marclay achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Boneyard in May 2016 with an auction result of USD 550,000.00 (€ 493,938.03).
Kunstwerk zum Vierfachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Silent (Music Box) von Christian Marclay im April diesen Jahres bei Phillips in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 300,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 1.270,00 (€ 1.150,36) mehr als viermal so hoch. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Christian Marclay erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Boneyard im Mai 2016 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 550.000,00 (€ 493.938,03).
