Artwork auctioned at six times the upper estimate price
When the work Il mare nella conchiglia The Sea in the Seashell by Afro was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in July 2021, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 8,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than six times as high at USD 52,920.00 (€ 44,605.53). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Afro achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Porta Portese in November 2012 with an auction result of USD 938,500.00 (€ 721,368.18).
Kunstwerk zum Sechsfachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Il mare nella conchiglia The Sea in the Seashell von Afro im Juli 2021 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 8.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 52.920,00 (€ 44.605,53) mehr als sechsmal so hoch. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Afro erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Porta Portese im November 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 938.500,00 (€ 721.368,18).
