Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work Unknown by Utagawa Sadahide was worth EUR 5,250.00 to a buyer in May 2008. This price was achieved in the auction Asian Art at Christies in Amsterdam and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of EUR 1,500.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Utagawa Sadahide - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Yokohama koeki seiyojin kamotsu unso no zu (A view of Western traders transporting merchandise at Yokohama), which sold at auction in September 2002 for USD 17,925.00 (€ 18,144.55).
