Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In December 2021 Sothebys in London held the auction Fine Japanese Prints, which included the work Battle at Amagasaki from the Taiheiki (Taiheiki Amagasaki gassen) by Utagawa Sadahide. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 4,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 4,032.00 (€ 4,809.33). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Utagawa Sadahide - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Yokohama koeki seiyojin kamotsu unso no zu (A view of Western traders transporting merchandise at Yokohama), which sold at auction in September 2002 for USD 17,925.00 (€ 18,144.55).
