The work Dai-edo no umi asahi no ikioi ten nobori no zu (Acsending to the heaven in the vigor of sunrise at the Great Edo Sea) by Utagawa Sadahide was sold in the Japanese and Korean Art auction at Christies in New York in September last year. The »bidding war« ended at USD 4,032.00 (€ 4,121.44), 34% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Utagawa Sadahide have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Yokohama koeki seiyojin kamotsu unso no zu (A view of Western traders transporting merchandise at Yokohama) in September 2002 with an auction result of USD 17,925.00 (€ 18,144.55).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 34 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit Dai-edo no umi asahi no ikioi ten nobori no zu (Acsending to the heaven in the vigor of sunrise at the Great Edo Sea) von Utagawa Sadahide wurde im September letzten Jahres in der Auktion Japanese and Korean Art bei Christies in New York versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 4.032,00 (€ 4.121,44) und damit 34% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Utagawa Sadahide auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Yokohama koeki seiyojin kamotsu unso no zu (A view of Western traders transporting merchandise at Yokohama) im September 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 17.925,00 (€ 18.144,55).
