Edo period, 19 th century
each a woodblock print, the right sheets signed Gountei Sadahide ga, the centre and left sheets signed Sadahide ga, censor's seal aratame, published by Moriya Jihei (Kinshindo), 8 th month 1859, and comprising:
- Sanada Masayuki is the first to cross the Chikuma River (Sanada Masayuki Chikumagawa ichiban nori)
- The Battle of Kawanakajima, depicting the clash between Takeda Shingen of Kai Province and Uesugi Kenshin of Echigo Province, both clans vying for control of the Kawanakajima plain flanked the Sai River and Chikuma River in northern Shinano Province
Each a vertical oban triptych:

This artwork by Utagawa Sadahide achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in December 2021. In the Fine Japanese Prints auction, the work Two woodblock print triptychs sold for GBP 2,772.00 (€ 3,306.41) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00. Admittedly, works by Utagawa Sadahide have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Yokohama koeki seiyojin kamotsu unso no zu (A view of Western traders transporting merchandise at Yokohama) in September 2002 with an auction result of USD 17,925.00 (€ 18,144.55).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 85 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Utagawa Sadahide erzielte im Dezember 2021 bei Sothebys in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Fine Japanese Prints wurde die Arbeit Two woodblock print triptychs für GBP 2.772,00 (€ 3.306,41) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 1.500,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Utagawa Sadahide auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Yokohama koeki seiyojin kamotsu unso no zu (A view of Western traders transporting merchandise at Yokohama) im September 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 17.925,00 (€ 18.144,55).
