This artwork by Simone Leigh achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in November 2019. In the Contemporary Art Day Auction auction, the work Rose Covered Cowrie Shell Ii sold for USD 137,500.00 (€ 124,784.46) - well above the upper estimate of USD 70,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Simone Leigh achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Stick in May this year with an auction result of USD 2,712,000.00 (€ 2,545,522.81).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Simone Leigh erzielte im November 2019 bei Sothebys in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Contemporary Art Day Auction wurde die Arbeit Rose Covered Cowrie Shell Ii für USD 137.500,00 (€ 124.784,46) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 70.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Simone Leigh erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Stick im Mai diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 2.712.000,00 (€ 2.545.522,81).
