This artwork by Piet Mondrian achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in June this year. In the Impressionist and Modern Art Day and Works on Paper Sale auction, the work Portret van Elisabeth Sophia Maria (Betsy) Cavalini sold for GBP 151,200.00 (€ 175,970.77) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 80,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Piet Mondrian achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Composition No. III, with Red, Blue, Yellow, and Black, 1929 in May 2015 with an auction result of USD 50,565,000.00 (€ 45,993,269.06).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Piet Mondrian erzielte im Juni diesen Jahres bei Christies in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Impressionist and Modern Art Day and Works on Paper Sale wurde die Arbeit Portret van Elisabeth Sophia Maria (Betsy) Cavalini für GBP 151.200,00 (€ 175.970,77) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 80.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Piet Mondrian erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Composition No. III, with Red, Blue, Yellow, and Black, 1929 im Mai 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 50.565.000,00 (€ 45.993.269,06).
