This artwork by Piet Mondrian achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in May 2015. In the Impressionist and Modern Evening Sale Including Property from the John C. Whitehead Collection auction, the work Composition No. III, with Red, Blue, Yellow, and Black, 1929 sold for USD 50,565,000.00 (€ 45,993,269.06) - well above the upper estimate of USD 25,000,000.00. This high result makes Composition No. III, with Red, Blue, Yellow, and Black, 1929 the most expensive artwork by Piet Mondrian that we have observed at auctions so far.
