Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Soft Sphere (The Head Of Plato) by James Lee Byars was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in September 2017. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 80,000.00 – 120,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 81,250.00 (€ 68,780.16) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Lee Byars achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Figure of Death in May 2015 with an auction result of USD 761,000.00 (€ 692,195.74).

Die Arbeit The Soft Sphere (The Head Of Plato) von James Lee Byars kam im September 2017 bei Sothebys in New York zur Auktion. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 80.000,00 – 120.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 81.250,00 (€ 68.780,16) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
