Auction result well in line with expectations
In August 2020 Sothebys in London held the auction Contemporary Art| London, which included the work Penis Letter To Jon Thompson by James Lee Byars. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 6,300.00 (€ 7,059.53) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Lee Byars achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Figure of Death in May 2015 with an auction result of USD 761,000.00 (€ 692,195.74).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im August 2020 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Contemporary Art| London durch, in der auch die Arbeit Penis Letter To Jon Thompson von James Lee Byars zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 6.000,00 – 8.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 6.300,00 (€ 7.059,53) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von James Lee Byars erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Figure of Death im Mai 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 761.000,00 (€ 692.195,74).
