Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price

When the work Jean Genêt Masturbating in Metteray Prison by David Wojnarowicz was auctioned at Phillips in New York in October 2021, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 9,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 30,240.00 (€ 26,177.29). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by David Wojnarowicz achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Earth, Wind, Fire And Water in November 2018 with an auction result of USD 1,515,000.00 (€ 1,337,984.63).

Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert

Als die Arbeit Jean Genêt Masturbating in Metteray Prison von David Wojnarowicz im Oktober 2021 bei Phillips in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 9.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 30.240,00 (€ 26.177,29) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von David Wojnarowicz erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Earth, Wind, Fire And Water im November 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.515.000,00 (€ 1.337.984,63).
