The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 1,200.00 but the actual price achieved was more than 15 times as high at USD 18,750.00 (€ 16,6 However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Yasumasa Morimura - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work An Inner Dialogue with Frida Kahlo, which sold at auction in November 2006 for USD 66,000.00 (€ 49,770.00).

Self-Portrait As Art History (Mona Lisa In The Third Place) 3 Works von Yasumasa Morimura im März 2019 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 1.200,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 18.750,00 (€ 16.699,32) mehr als 15-mal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Yasumasa Morimura mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit An Inner Dialogue with Frida Kahlo beobachtet, die im November 2006 für USD 66.000,00 (€ 49.770,00) versteigert wurde.
