TSCHABALALA SELF (B. 1990) Sapphire quilted fabric multiple, 2019, signed and dated in felt-tip marker on the reverse, numbered 18/30 (there were also five artist's proofs), co-published by the artist and Pilar Corrias Gallery, 2020, in very good condition Sheet: 54 1 ⁄ 8 x 39 1 ⁄ 4 in. (1375 x 997 mm.)
Upper estimate price exceeded by 58 %.
In July last year Christies in New York held the auction Contemporary Edition, which included the work Sapphire by Tschabalala Self. The »bidding war« ended at USD 18,900.00 (€ 18,525.78), 58% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Tschabalala Self achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Princess in February 2020 with an auction result of GBP 435,000.00 (€ 504,165.99).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 58 % übertroffen
Im Juli letzten Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion Contemporary Edition durch, in der auch die Arbeit Sapphire von Tschabalala Self zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 18.900,00 (€ 18.525,78) und damit 58% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Tschabalala Self erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Princess im Februar 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 435.000,00 (€ 504.165,99).
