TSCHABALALA SELF (B.1990) Princess hand-sewn cotton and tulle multiple, 2018, signed and dated in felt-tip pen on a label affixed to the reverse, numbered 10/30 (there were also two artist's proofs), commissioned for The Art of Empowerment, UN Women UK, London, in very good condition, together with the original wooden hanging rods Overall: 50 x 40 1 ⁄ 4 in. (1270 x 1022 mm.)
Auction result well in line with expectations
In July this year Christies held the auction Contemporary Edition, which included the work Princess by Tschabalala Self. The price achieved of USD 10,080.00 (€ 9,147.01) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Tschabalala Self achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Princess in February 2020 with an auction result of GBP 435,000.00 (€ 504,165.99).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Juli diesen Jahres führte Christies die Auktion Contemporary Edition durch, in der auch die Arbeit Princess von Tschabalala Self zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 10.080,00 (€ 9.147,01) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 8.000,00 – 12.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Tschabalala Self erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Princess im Februar 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 435.000,00 (€ 504.165,99).
