Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by John Thomson could be acquired at Christies in London in May 2001 for an unexpectedly low price. In the PHOTOGRAPHS auction, the work Illustrations of China and its People, London: Sampson Low, Marston, Low and Searle, 1874 changed hands for GBP 587.50 (€ 984.96) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 600.00 – 900.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Thomson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Hillside On Big Cauchon Lake - Algonquin Park in June 2010 with an auction result of CAD 462,500.00 (€ 354,767.72).
