Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2014 Christies in London held the auction Topographical Pictures, which included the work Hong Kong Views: Hong Kong; Hong Kong; East of Hong Kong; View of Stream to Eastwood; Praya Hong Kong; Hong Kong and Harbour; Public Gardens Hong Kong; Queens Road Hong Kong; Queens Road West; Hong Kong Club; Joss House; East Joss House; East Road; E by John Thomson. The price achieved of GBP 47,500.00 (€ 60,650.64) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00. Admittedly, works by John Thomson have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Hillside On Big Cauchon Lake - Algonquin Park in June 2010 with an auction result of CAD 462,500.00 (€ 354,767.72).
