Upper estimate price exceeded by 51 %.
In May 2001 Christies in London held the auction PHOTOGRAPHS, which included the work Illustrations of China and its People, London: Sampson Low, Marston, Low and Searle, 1874 by John Thomson. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 5,287.50 (€ 8,864.61), 51% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Thomson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Hillside On Big Cauchon Lake - Algonquin Park in June 2010 with an auction result of CAD 462,500.00 (€ 354,767.72).
