Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2017 Sothebys in New York held the auction American Art, which included the work Merry Christmas: Two Children Before The Fireplace by Jessie Willcox Smith. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 100,000.00 – 150,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 112,500.00 (€ 94,553.71) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jessie Willcox Smith - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work How Doth the Little Busy Bee, which sold at auction in April 2011 for USD 386,500.00 (€ 260,778.62).
