Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Jessie Willcox Smith achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in May 2016. In the American Art auction, the work "When Daddy Was a Little Boy" sold for USD 149,000.00 (€ 133,812.30) - well above the upper estimate of USD 70,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jessie Willcox Smith; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot How Doth the Little Busy Bee sold at auction in April 2011 with the realized price of USD 386,500.00 (€ 260,778.62).
