Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In September 2021 Bonhams in Los Angeles held the auction Prints & Multiples, which included the work Frederick Douglass Portfolio 4 by Ben Shahn. The »bidding war« ended at USD 1,402.50 (€ 1,211.45), 17% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ben Shahn achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Scabbies are Welcome in September 2006 with an auction result of USD 262,400.00 (€ 206,825.88).
