Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Note IV, from Notes (S. 25) by Barnett Newman was auctioned at Phillips in New York in April last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 9,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 27,720.00 (€ 26,307.30). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Barnett Newman achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Black Fire I in May 2014 with an auction result of USD 84,165,000.00 (€ 61,704,545.45).
