Auction result misses estimated price range
When this work without title by Barnett Newman was auctioned at Christies in New York in October last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 50,000.00 – 70,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 47,880.00 (€ 48,198.11). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Barnett Newman achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Black Fire I in May 2014 with an auction result of USD 84,165,000.00 (€ 61,704,545.45).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als diese Arbeit ohne Titel von Barnett Newman im Oktober letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 50.000,00 – 70.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 47.880,00 (€ 48.198,11) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Barnett Newman erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Black Fire I im Mai 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 84.165.000,00 (€ 61.704.545,45).
