Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2006 Phillips in New York held the auction Contemporary Art Part II, which included the work Square Word Calligraphy (Irresistible) by Xu Bing. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 10,800.00 (€ 8,144.18) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Xu Bing achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Living Word in April 2008 with an auction result of HKD 7,607,500.00 (€ 626,954.17).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im November 2006 führte Phillips in New York die Auktion Contemporary Art Part II durch, in der auch die Arbeit Square Word Calligraphy (Irresistible) von Xu Bing zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 10.000,00 – 15.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 10.800,00 (€ 8.144,18) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Xu Bing erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Living Word im April 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 7.607.500,00 (€ 626.954,17).
