Upper estimate price exceeded by 64 %.
In September last year Bonhams in Los Angeles held the auction Prints & Multiples, which included the work Eight Bells by Winslow Homer. The »bidding war« ended at USD 98,655.00 (€ 100,843.30), 64% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Winslow Homer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Where are the Boats? in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 4,572,500.00 (€ 3,918,166.24).
