Auction result well in line with expectations
The work It'S The End Of The World As I Know It...Again by Wangechi Mutu was sold in the Contemporary Art Day Auction auction at Sothebys in New York in May 2021. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 100,000.00 – 150,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 107,100.00 (€ 87,830.08) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Wangechi Mutu - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Little Thought for All Ya'll Who're Thinking of Beating Around the Bush, which sold at auction in February 2008 for GBP 204,500.00 (€ 267,477.97).

Die Arbeit It'S The End Of The World As I Know It...Again von Wangechi Mutu wurde im Mai 2021 in der Auktion Contemporary Art Day Auction bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 100.000,00 – 150.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 107.100,00 (€ 87.830,08) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Wangechi Mutu mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A Little Thought for All Ya'll Who're Thinking of Beating Around the Bush beobachtet, die im Februar 2008 für GBP 204.500,00 (€ 267.477,97) versteigert wurde.
