This artwork by Wangechi Mutu achieved an unexpectedly high price at Phillips in New York in May this year. In the 20th Century & Contemporary Art Day Sale, Afternoon Session auction, the work Eye Spy sold for USD 57,150.00 (€ 53,641.82) - well above the upper estimate of USD 30,000.00. Admittedly, works by Wangechi Mutu have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A Little Thought for All Ya'll Who're Thinking of Beating Around the Bush in February 2008 with an auction result of GBP 204,500.00 (€ 267,477.97).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Wangechi Mutu erzielte im Mai diesen Jahres bei Phillips in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion 20th Century & Contemporary Art Day Sale, Afternoon Session wurde die Arbeit Eye Spy für USD 57.150,00 (€ 53.641,82) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 30.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Wangechi Mutu auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit A Little Thought for All Ya'll Who're Thinking of Beating Around the Bush im Februar 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 204.500,00 (€ 267.477,97).
