Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Pure Polygon Series: six plates by Walter De Maria was auctioned at Phillips in New York in October 2018, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 15,000.00 – 25,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 12,500.00 (€ 11,030.71). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Walter De Maria achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Circle/Rectangle 7 (Large Rod Series) in November 2007 with an auction result of USD 577,000.00 (€ 392,837.69).
